Sylvia and I reunited several times over the years. I remember her fondly and miss her now. She was unassuming and brave. A beautiful soul. She will be with us in spirit at the reunion.
Sylvia and I were friends in our 7th and 8th grade years at Matteson. After high school, we lost total contact until the late 90's or early 00's. We communicated a little at that point, and then I found out she had died. Would love to hear more about her life. Will always remember her bright and shining smile!!
At Rich East, I knew Sylvia as Pete Brandt's girlfriend. Ironically, he is gone too. At the 25th reunion, we reconnected and became good long-distance friends. She left a difficult marriage, went to college and got her degree in English, for which I had great admiration.
In those days I was conculting a lot and would visit her whenever I was in Chicago. It is then that I knew of her cancer. She was courageous and philosophical about it all. In 2005, when my wife and I moved to Phoenix from Delaware, we visited Sylvia in Knoxville, where she was living with her mom. That's the last time I saw her.
Her younger brother wrote me a letter to inform me of her death in 2009, I believe. She was living with her son at the time and had the benefit of hospice care in her last days.
Sylvia wasa good friend and a gentle soul, a sweet and lovely person.
