In Memory

Betzi Biggs (Smith)

Elizabeth Beroset Smith passed away December 6, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Elizabeth "Betzi" was born in St. Louis, MO on September 17, 1945, to Eugene Biggs and Elizabeth Jones Biggs. After graduating from Rich East High School in 1963, (Her family had moved there from St. Louis), Betzi earned a BS in Teaching at University of St. Louis.

After marriage and relocation to Pensacola, FL, Betzi earned a BS in Accounting at the University of West Florida. Betzi moved to Tallahassee to accept a State Auditor's position with the Florida Auditor General's Office in 1987. She passed the State CPA exam, was certified, and advanced to Senior Auditor.

This was accomplished while raising two children. Betzi's love affair with "gummy bears" came to the forefront during this challenging period of her life. After moving to Tallahassee, Betzi met and married the love of her life, her husband, Gordon R. "Bob" Smith on August 12, 1995. Like Betzi, Bob possess a BS in Accounting, as well as a Masters of Accounting, is a CPA, and retired as President & CEO of Bertram Yacht Corporation.

Betzi was so proud of her two loving sons: Wade & John Beroset & their wives, Frederick & Katie, of Pensacola, FL. Wade is the General Manager of Jaco's, a popular restaurant in Pensacola, and John is an attorney with Beroset & Keene, also of Pensacola, FL. Some of Betzi's happiest moments were those spent enjoying her grandchildren: Drew Beroset (4yrs), Jackson Beroset (3 mos), & Isabelle Beroset (1 yr). Betzi was very open about her love and appreciation of her husband, Bob. They were partners in life in every sense of the word.

A Celebration of Betzi's life will be held at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 700 Timberlane Rd., Tallahassee, FL, at 2pm on Saturday, December 15, 2012. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Betzi's memory to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, Big Bend Chapter 2501 Oak Lawn Avenue, Suite 435, Dallas, TX 75219.
